A LITTLE BIT

ABOUT US

North Shore Special Education Consulting provides consultative services to families and school teams, through education and advocacy, in order to help secure success for students with exceptional abilities.

Securing services and navigating the IEP process can be cumbersome for both families and school teams. Using a collaborative approach, we work with you and your child's educational team to develop an individual plan for your child that will result in student success.

This can be as simple as helping you work through a small problem or helping you navigate services for your child from start to finish.  We also work with school teams to evaluate programming and provide professional development in educational best practice.

Our purpose is to help families navigate the procedures for securing a school plan their child that is reflective of his or her unique needs and helps them find academic and/or social emotional success.

Lead consultant, Marni Johnson, has spent the past twenty years working in schools.  She started as a school psychologist, became a special education administrator, and then an assistant superintendent, overseeing special education and student services for a large high school district.  Marni’s goal has always been a student centered and collaborative approach.  The experience of working with someone who has extensive knowledge in a wide variety of areas such as IEPs, student discipline, 504 services, mental health, MTSS, program development, and policy writing makes North Shore Special Education Consulting uniquely equipped to empower families and school teams to secure success for all students.

We can teach our children to flap their wings, but conditions have to be just right for them to fly.

Our approach is to learn about your child's unique situation, educate you on the process to secure services, and work collaboratively with you and the school to secure a successful plan for your child.  This process could look slightly different for each family depending on the level of support that is desired.  We may be starting with the eligibility process or your child may have received services for years.  Whatever your concern, we are here to listen and help address it.

We want children with exceptional abilities to succeed.  We excel in providing support to parents and school teams to make this happen.
